• Vignaioli in Cortona dai primi del '900

Poggio Sorbello

The family-run company was founded in the early 1900’s on the hills between Cortona and Montepulciano (land of Vino Nobile) on the border between the provinces of Arezzo, Siena and Perugia. From the heart of the farm, located at 360 a.s.l., you can see Lake Trasimeno, the Cortonese mountains, Mount Amiata and Mount Subasio.

The vineyards, which have always been on site, began to be modernized since the mid-1990s with the introduction of local and international grape varieties, which better express their characteristics in this area.

In these hills, suited since the earliest times to the production of the highest quality grapes, the family currently cultivates about 10 hectares of vineyards with a high density planting layout (around 5200 vines/Ha) and the main method of cultivation is the spurred cordon. The grape varieties are Syrah, which is the grape variety at the base of the Denominazione Cortona D.O.C., Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. White grape varieties, such as Chardonnay and Viognier, have been recently planted too.

Poggio Sorbello has always been dedicated to the cultivation of cereals and legumes which are typical of the area. Nowadays this farm grows more than 15 varieties, including Fagiolo Zolfino, Fagiolina del Trasimeno, Fagiolo Etrusco. The farm cultivates Saffron and Aglione, also called "Garlic of lovers", raises hives in the woods producing an excellent wildflower honey.
